Getting Started Mindset

Normal 1540855078 Question

Why do people avoid getting started?

  • They fear change
  • They fear the unknown
  • They fear that which is different from what they've done in the past
  • They don't have confidence in themselves
  • They think a task is too large or that it will require too much effort, so they don't even bother getting started
  • They underestimate their power to change
  • They tolerate the status quo

Here's a secret

  • You will never change anything that you tolerate

Some points to remember

  • It's always best to start at the beginning
  • NEVER underestimate your power to change
  • The only things impossible to finish are the things you never start
  • Winning starts with beginning
  • No one can go back and make a brand new start, BUT anyone can start from here and make a brand new ending
  • You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the previous one

What do you do if the task ahead of you seems too large?

  • Remember - To move a mountain, begin by carrying away small stones
  • Take it a step at a time. Just get started. The very act of starting helps build momentum and that keeps you going.

Once people have some success, why do they often fall of the wagon?

  • It's because we're not perfect
  • We fall prey to temptation
  • We're going to make mistakes
  • From time to time, we will fail
  • Stuff happens

So what should you do when you fall off the wagon?

  • Just hop back on
  • If you made a mistake yesterday, decide that you're NOT going to make that same mistake today (or tomorrow)
  • Don't beat yourself up
    • Life beats up enough as it is. You don't need to help it out.

Both success and failure come from small life experiences.

It all depends on what you learn from those experiences and what you do as a result of what you've learned.
