Owning a Home... Still the American Dream

It’s the ‘American Dream’ to own a home, right?  Yet in today’s economy, tough job market, and numbers of people battling serious debt, it seems almost impossible to become & remain a homeowner.  There are those who are fixed incomes that rent who hold onto the dream of one day becoming a homeowner… but can it happen for them?  When you look at how much a renter spends in one year to pay a landlord rent for a place they live in, and then compare it to how much they would have to spend towards their own home, sometimes the numbers can be heartbreaking.  On top of that, there are those that pay thousands a year in rent for a less-than-adequate space just so they can have a roof over their heads.  There are real estate agents who market to renters simply based on how much a renter could be saving if they owned.  But for many, it isn't that simple.  Many who are renting & still working are doing so in order to plan & save for retirement.  Not every employer provides for guaranteed pensions, or retirement income to where a person can live comfortably after they retire.  Those who don’t have that luxury have to contemplate the pros & cons; whether they would actually be coming out ahead financially if they took the “plunge” towards home ownership.  For some, buying a home would actually cause more of a financial burden, especially after retirement, than it would be a blessing.

If you find yourself in a position where you'd like to become a homeowner, or you're not sure if you're in a position to be able to, contact a reliable & knowledgeable Realtor in your area.  they can counsel you on the steps & process, what needs to be done, and what, if anything, you would need to do to position yourself to become a homeowner.  You can also check out reputable website &  for information regarding the market, steps you can take, and even listings currently available.  Having a Realtor can help avoid any legal issues, contract problems, and can make the process go smoothly.
