State Representative Tony Sellier, District 136, passed away overnight. Sources close to the representative tell us it was a heart related matter.

Sellier was born in Point-a-Pierre, Trinidad in the West Indies and was raised in the oil camps of Venezuela where his father worked for Mobil Oil Company.

He came to the United States at the age of 15 to study at a Catholic boarding school in central Florida and went on to attend the University of West Florida, where he received a BS Degree in Management and Economics in 1970.

In 1973 Sellier became an American Citizen.

A job with Blue Bird brought him to Fort Valley in 1975 that was the start of the a 35 year career with the company.

His first term in the Georgia Legislature began in 2007. His experience as an immigrant gave him a unique perspective on the current questions of immigration reform in the state. During an appearance on Newsnight on the Patriot in September Sellier summed up his feelings on the matter. “I came to this country and worked hard to become a citizen. These folks now want the benefits without going through the legal process and that is just wrong.”

Check back with The Patriot - Radio, Online and Television - throughout the day for more details and funeral arrangements as soon as that information becomes available.
