How do we achieve Housing Stability for the most vulnerable?

Keep in mind as always when you read an article the inherent bias of the author.  Chris Norris is the executive director of Metro Housing Boston.

Also, keep in mind that I am a Free Market/Chicago School/Libertarian/Objectivist Economist.

The author of this article posits that there has been greater housing stability over the past 2 years of COVID due to changes to Government Assistance programs and we should continue that thinking.

I agree that it has been easier for those who needed help to receive help from the government in the form of rental assistance.  Those who are not eligible for a section 8 voucher have been able to receive rental assistance in a reasonably frictionless way.

I also agree that this has been helpful for the tenants, and I would go one further to say that it has been helpful for the Owners of rental properties, myself included.

But, THIS SUBSIDY HAS TO STOP!!!!!

Let's go with the assumption that most people are using the system appropriately and only a few people who could work are taking advantage of the system.  This is typically why most conservatives want to stop programs, so let's take that off the table.

THEN WHY STOP?

Simple--- WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY- WE ARE BORROWING FROM OUR GRANDCHILDREN TO PAY FOR THESE PROGRAMS

We need to figure a way to fix the system of housing.  We need to build different types of housing, perhaps congregate housing, perhaps dormitories like St. Vincent had for the Sisters and the nurses in the 1920s when to attract and retain workers hospitals built housing for their workers and owned them.  

It is easy to solve problems by throwing money at them, but money is a finite resource.  

We need to build more housing where it is wanted.  And, we know housing is wanted in Worcester since the prices continue to rise.

Perhaps NON TRADITIONAL HOUSING IS THE ANSWER
