Questions to Ask Your Real Estate Agent

When choosing your real estate agent the relationship you establish can either be a match made in heaven, or a complete nightmare. Asking for references is only the tip of the iceberg.

Our last blog covered steps on how to choose the right real estate agent, this blog will cover questions you should ask your real estate agent.

1. How long have you been an agent?

The amount of time they've been in the industry will give you a quick insight into how knowledgeable they are at what they're doing.

2. Are you a full-time or part-time agent?

A full-time agent will have more time to devote to you rather than someone who's only pursuing real estate on the side.

3. How many clients do you typically work with at the same time?

This is another key indicator as to how much time your agent will devote to you. Someone who's working with multiple clients at the same time won't have as much time and effort as someone who's only working with a handful of clients.

4. Do you work with both buyers and sellers?

Some agents either specialize with buyers or sellers. An agent who does both might be able to provide better insight on the whole process. The more knowledge the better.

5. Do you invest in real estate?

If applicable, this will help you look into what speciality they lean towards.

6. Do you have references I can call?

You always want to take a look at past clients, this will help you get a second-hand opinion on how the agent you're choosing works.

7. Have you worked in the area we’re looking into before?

If an agent doesn't know the area you're looking into they might not know the market as well either. You'll want to find someone familiar with the area or willing to understand it.

8. Can you recommend ________ ?

Contractors, inspectors, lawyers, appraisers, etc. A good real estate agent will have a network of recommendations they can offer.

These 8 questions will give you a better understanding of who your real estate agent is and whether or not this is the right match for you.
