Ocean Beach, San Diego

Ocean Beach lies amongst the Pacific Ocean and is just one of the many beautiful San Diego beaches in all of San Diego County.  This beach town is located at the western end of Interstate 8 and only seven miles from Downtown San Diego and the Gaslight District.  Also close by you will find the home of the San Diego Padres at Petco, Mission Valley and so much more.  And with the world famous San Diego Zoo and Sea World as neighbors, it makes Ocean Beach a very convenient place to live for singles, families and the retired population.  With its neighboring beaches of Mission Bay and Mission Beach, this popular beach community is visited year round.

It’s a beach where surfers enjoy riding the waves created by the jetties while the swimmers and sunbathers enjoy their form of entertainment and relaxation.  The water at Ocean Beach is divided into two zones.  One is for surfing while the other is for swimming and boogie boards. Well patrolled by lifeguards, the beaches are safe for you and your family.

The main street of business is Newport Avenue which boasts coffee houses, bars, bike and surf shops, antique stores and many restaurants.  The community also features multiple churches, a public library, a U.S. Post Office and an independent supermarket.

As a resident of Ocean Beach, it’s good to know that there are three schools housed in the community: Ocean Beach Elementary (K-4 public School), Sacred Heart Academy (K-8 Catholic School) and Warren-Walker (K-8 Private School).

Recreational facilities include the Ocean Beach Recreation Center, Dusty Rhodes Park, and the ever-popular Robb Athletic Field, where a family can enjoy a day of activities. Complete with multiple baseball fields, wide grass areas for soccer and football, tennis courts, handball courts, workout gym, basketball courts and a skate park there is something for everyone at Robb Athletic Field.  And let’s don’t forget the nearby public Skate Park.

One of the most popular attractions of this city is the Ocean Beach Municipal Pier.  This pier is one-half mile long and extends 1971 feet into the ocean and is the second longest pier on the west coast.  It has incredible views of the Pacific Ocean.  Located just north of this pier is one of the most popular Dog Beaches in and around San Diego, because it’s just one of two places in San Diego where your dog can run “free!”  No leashes required on the beach.  Ocean Beach Dog Beach, where the only thing left behind are “paw prints”.

So if you’re looking for a small beach community with lots going on and things to do, then why not take a look at Ocean Beach?  You’ll be amazed at the charm of this beach front community called Ocean Beach.
