Fearless: "The Dogs"
A while back, I was dropping off some items over my friend’s house and I drove into the driveway to find about 8 or 9 dogs chilling in the yard. They didn’t look mean, but they looked as if I was invading their territory. Contemplating whether or not to get out of the car, I thought to myself: 1. I’m not going to waste my gas over a pack of dogs 2. This stuff is too darn heavy to keep in my car and take up my space. So, I stepped out of the car, gathered my things, and walked to the front door.
As I walked to the door, one of the dogs had its eyes on me. To prevent looking frightened or “inviting”, I kept my eyes on the door and didn’t look back. Within seconds, one of the neighbors (a teenager) from across the street came outside and all of the dogs ran to him. I knew at that moment that God was protecting me and He honored my boldness.
The point of this story is that in order to embrace success, you’ll have to take steps into situations that may seem incredibly risky and, to some, may not make any sense at all. However, if you keep your eyes focused on the opportunities ahead and not on the fears behind you, you are protected! You can’t focus on future goals if you’re worried about last month’s failures and the dreaded disease “should’ve, would’ve, could’ve”.
Another thing to consider is that everyone is not prepared to accompany you on your journey, and IT’S OKAY! My friend, Natalie, would’ve left me hanging if she was in the car because she’s extremely afraid of dogs! That doesn’t mean that I’d kick her to the curb; if the dogs would’ve eaten me alive, I can rest assured that she would call 911 :0) Airplanes can’t fly with too much baggage. Evaluate your relationships and situations and be bold enough to address them or eliminate them if they’re not benefiting you and/or your business. You are only as strong as the support around you!
As I go through the journey of making Bell Investments a blessing to the Memphis community, it’s these moments that I thank God for reminding me to enjoy the journey. Faithfulness takes radical boldness and extreme honesty. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I promise you, you can’t develop this spirit focusing on your mistakes. Embrace your failures knowing that these situations are here to “prosper and not to harm you” (Jeremiah 29:11).
