Seattle Green Builder Chooses to Go All Electric

Martha Rose Construction has been building at the rigorous 5-Star Built Green level since its inception, choosing to make this their standard practice as opposed to making energy efficient options upgrades.” Building at this level requires more work and allot more attention to details” mentions Rose. The real benefit is to the new home owner who gets a home that is more energy efficient, healthier and more comfortable to live in. Martha Rose became interested in building environmentally friendly homes during the energy crisis of the 1970s.

Their latest project, , is going to be an all eclectic house.  It almost seems like a step a backwards.  When asked Rose mentions “with the high performance windows, door, insulation and moisture control measures it will take very little energy to heat and cool these homes.”  Rose developed a partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Team which works in all segments of the building industry analyzing and implements strategies that achieve important home energy savings. The Building America team provides invaluable research and information on the newest heating and cooling equipment available, through  researching, testing, and monitoring the systems and equipment,  making sure can stand up to the 5-Star Built Green performance levels that Rose demands.  

The in Seattle’s Queen Anne Hill neighborhood will be will be just under 2000 sq.ft. 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms and will be equipped with mini-splits, heat-recovery-ventilator for improved indoor air quality. The system runs continuously at a low speed acting as the lungs of the home.  Plans are underway to use City Cabins as a  live-demo site showcasing some of the newest green building techniques and materials. The Queen Ann Hill Built Green project is expected to be completed in late fall of 2011.
