Seattle Builder Edges Closer to Net–Zero
Martha Rose Construction latest project, City Cabins on Queen Anne Hill, is pleased to be a part of EPA’s ENERGY STAR program and will work to improve energy-efficiency and fight climate change.
Part of the commitment is to make sure the two homes, City Cabins, is at least 15% more efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC), and include energy-saving building and equipment that will on average be 20-30% more efficient than standard homes.
Rose’s goal for the new homes in Seattle is to get as close to net-zero as possible, this could be a difficult task in this marketplace. City Cabins are spec houses, meaning the builder, Rose, is building them on speculation-that the market will support the projected selling price when completed in October-November 2011.
The homes will be plumbed, wired and roughed-in for solar equipment. Depending on the size of the system(s) and the amount of sun the homes will attract will be several of the key elements in determining how close to net-zero the two new homes on Queen Anne Hill will get.
Rose’s is increasing the overall insulation package to include R-41 walls, R-10 insulated slab, R-6 insulated fiberglass windows, R-60 insulation in the attic, high performance windows & doors, lighting, efficient heating & cooling equipment, and the homes will be independently 3rd party verified by a certified Energy Star rater.
City Cabins are now available for presale, for more information contact Adrian Willanger 206 909-7536.
