Life with no internet...

It was like I went back to the past while still living in the future or.... I guess the present.  After getting most of the demo, rough plumbing and electrical done and halfway putting together a bathroom we decided to move out of the hotel and into the house.  For the last two weeks we lived a life without internet... and it was awful.  We got the largest bedroom cleaned up and painted, and inside put a bed, couch, one dresser and our TV, which thankfully now, along with our internet, is hooked up.  The hallway bathroom, minus some minor touch up paint is done and working and now with our "clean" room to sleep in it's not that bad.  We still don't have a kitchen or much of the rest of the house done but we have a room and it's working well.

Over the past two weeks we have been hard at work getting the guts of the house in working order.  This is the part of any project I like the least.  It seems like it takes forever and there really isn't much of completion or ending point to look forward to.  The plumber and electrician always has bad news and always finds more issues than they thought they would.  In the end you're left with a lot of holes in the walls and a lot of work ahead.  But it's a necessary part of the job and need to get done right.

One of the major issues my plumber found in the project was that all of the drain lines for the the master bathroom - shower, sink, toilet and washer- were all pvc but none of them glued together.  How they were holding any amount of water beats me.   The good news is we found this early enough that nothing was really in the way to fix it.  But with any good plumber they try to tack on a few extra dollars for the trouble.  I find it's best when they attempt to ask for too much money (and they always do) to just not say anything.  Just be quiet and stand there.  Sooner than later the number miraculously gets cut in half and then I usually chop it in half again.  Works every time.

Below are a few pictures of the tiling in the bathroom and the new hardwood we put down in the kitchen.  We had the floors in the entire house redone and they look amazing.  If in the future you are looking to get your hardwood floors refinished make sure after they do any repairs and sand it all down they put 3 coats of oil based poly down and no less.  Some guys will tell you 2 is enough but trust me, that third coat makes all the different.  With buffing in between each coat they always come out amazing.

More to come and a little faster now that I've come back to the future!
