Missouri Legislative Update: HB 175 & Evictions

Normal 1547565237 Mo Hb 175

Legislative Alert: The Missouri Legislature is considering House Bill 175, that could affect property investors that need to do an eviction. The summary of the bill, provided by the Legislature, is as follows:

This bill specifies that, if a landlord evicts a tenant in violation of any statute or county or municipal ordinance, the landlord shall be guilty of a class E felony.

The bill also increases the penalty for assault in the 4th degree, a class A misdemeanor in most cases, to a class E felony if the victim is a tenant in a landlord-tenant relationship. If the assault on the tenant involves a weapon, it is a class C felony.

This bill is the same as HB 2532 (2018).

As of 10 January 2019, the bill has received its second reading at the Missouri Legislature. You can get the full text of the bill and track its progress at the Missouri House of Representatives.
