Parkland Shred-a-Thon

This Saturday, June 9th, the Broward Sheriff's Office will be holding its annual Shred-a-Thon event in . From 9am to 12pm, Parkland area residents can bring any documents containing personal information to the Broward Sheriff's office (6650 University Dr. in Parkland) to have it safely shredded and disposed of. Identity thieves use bank statements, check stubs, credit card receipts and even credit card offers to nab unsuspecting consumers' credit information. Shredding these documents and disposing of them properly makes it much more difficult for these criminals to steal your identity.

Before you head to the Sheriff's office on Saturday, clean out your medicine cabinet of all your old and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. Children and animals can get a hold of them if you simply throw them in your household trash. Flushing them down the toilets allows these dangerous medications to enter into the public water table and on to the Parkland area's wildlife. Neither of these options is good. If you bring your expired prescriptions to the Broward County Sheriff's office, not only can you rest assured that they will be disposed of properly, but you could also receive a $5 gift card if you come in early. Supplies of $5 gift cards are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis only.

Even though summer is almost officially here, it's never too late for a Spring cleaning. Bring any documents containing personal information as well as old prescriptions or expired medications to the Broward Sheriff's Office this Saturday, June 9th for the Parkland Shred-a-Thon and Prescription Drug Take Back Program.
