Parkland FL Adding New Fire Station and More Police

Parkland, FL is now adding a new fire station and more police personal to the force. Since property values are on the rise and new home sales are continuing to grow, it is the perfect time for the city to bring on these new additions.

The city will take out a 15-year loan to fund the $7 million in a new fire station and other capital projects. They will also be hiring two more police officers during 2013 – 2014, which will complete the city’s fourth police zone.

Parkland, FL residents will see a small tax increase to help fund the new construction and capital projects. The gross taxable property value is $3.19 billion, which is up from $2.99 billion during 2012 and 2013. By raising the local taxes, the city will bring in an additional ad valorem revenue of $670,000. The city has set aside money for streetlights and school programs.

There will also be a 1.7 percent increase in the city’s fire rescue contract with Coral Springs. The fire assessment fee will however remain the same at $210 for residential properties and $.50 per square foot for commercial properties. Assessments for solid waste will be $343.20 for residential properties, which is an increase of $4.68 from last year.

Employees of the state will benefit from these adjustments. They will get a cost-of-living increase and more health insurance coverage, however, their pensions will remain the same.
