My First Post

Here we are... the starting line.  The moment when I said to myself, what I have isn't enough.  I want more.  I want to be free from the 9-5 grind.  I want to be my own boss.  I want to make a difference.  I want to be able to really give back.  I want... I want.. I want...  I've always wanted more, and I've always succeeded at getting what I want.  So here we are... the start of my journey of me getting what I want.

I'll start with a little background of myself.  My name is Kenny Barrett and I was born in Scotland.  I didn't grow up with much.  My father was in the military (thus the overseas birth place), my mother was a stay at home parent, and we moved constantly... we were also completely broke.  With 3 kids (I have two siblings), and only one source of military based income, money was tight.  Extremely tight. We finally settled in rural Indiana just before the start of high school.  I always knew that I wanted to go to college, so I worked relentlessly at getting great grades, excelling in sports, and taking first chair and captain of our drumline.  I got into the college of my choice completely free with the help of all my scholarships.  I finished with a 3.8 GPA along with receiving Latin Honors, sitting in an office in a top ranking business fraternity, volunteering, being part of several social organizations, AND working 30-35 hours per week.

So there it is... my life, condensed in a single run-on paragraph, outlining all my successes and none of my faults :)  However, even my faults prove to be a success... after all, its not how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get back up!

My journey starts with my education... NOT my first purchase.  The majority of my initial posts will be something new that I learned, a book that I just finished, or some insane excel spreadsheet that I created to keep me excited about my future net worth.

The first book that I read was Rich Dad Poor Dad.  Cliche?  Of course.  But it did the job.  It created one hell of a spark that brought me to where I am today.  I immediately went out and bought Why We Want You To Be Rich, co authored by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.  After flying through these first two books, I went out and bought The Real Book of Real Estate.  People claim that Kiyosaki is a scam artist... this is BS.  He's a MOTIVATOR.  People purchase these books and start whining because its not a step by step guide to becoming a gazillionaire.  I don't care whether or not he truly had a rich dad and a poor dad or a father at all for that matter.  The man is wealthy and he's motivating others to do the same thing.  I also just recently finished a short book that gives one strategy for real estate investing.  It's called 7 Years to 7 Figure Wealth and was written by Brandon Turner over at RealEstateinyourtwenties.com.

That's it for now... I'm sure another will be along the way shortly though!

  2. Hey Ken Barrett, welcome to BP! Brandon Turner writes here periodically, a nice good review would indeed be great!

  3. Hey Ken, Want you to know I'm reading. Keep moving forward. How about a long review on RealEstateInYourTwenties and throwing our friend a hyperlink or two!
