Shrubs Touching House = Termite Super-Highway

Normal 1497627554 Before Jack Front

"Jack Hammer Plus" team has been working on the yard. A few more trees went down. I didn't want to see them go down, and hoped to build a deck around one particularly attractive tree.  However, it was leaning toward the house, and this house is in a hurricane zone.  Others, such as an enormous mango tree, were camped out on the copper roof and were bound to cause damage to the metal.  Rot was in the bamboo. Shrubs were up next to the house along the entire perimeter.

So Jack got the cherry picker in so that his team could get up high and remove the larger branches from the roof.  We had a guy standing on the chimney for some time, doing his thing, which was oddly disconcerting.

The bobcat plowed through the overgrowth as it maneuvered around, clearing all in its path.  The hours I spent trimming the shrubs was for nought.  The brick path is damaged. It looks like a bomb hit.  But in a good way.

However, it had to happen.  Termites had found an easy path to their favorite food, and we needed to cut the route off.  Additionally, it gives us a clean slate for future landscaping, to include irrigation.

This mango tree is about 1/3 of its original size...it had been on the roof.

So, what does it cost for a project like this?  My verbal quote was just south of $1200 a day for labor and removal to trash. Later, we will have to have a stump grinder come in.  We had a number of large trees go down.

You should have seen the cars slow down and gape...I suspect none of them knew that a house was even there.  :D
