Preparing the kitchen for new tile by removing substrate

We have sourced a specialty tile importer to do the flooring on our renovation. The owner is Italian and has an amazing range of European tiles at his shop.  The first step, he said, is to remove the tiles from the kitchen.

We rented a piece of equipment from Home Depot a hammer drill. This allowed Robert to get all the small Mexican tiles out in one afternoon.

Anthony from Studio Tile, then made a site visit and determined that before we put new tile into the house, we need to first take out the substrate that we found under the kitchen tiles.  He wants us to get down to the sub-flooring.

Anthony would like to have us expose the wood. So, we had to go rent the hammer drill again.  While Robert used the hammer drill to break apart chunks of concrete, I used a small bucket and hauled the chunks out to the roll-off dumpster.
