Self Talk - Blog#1 Comin' At Ya

 Greetings community!

I’m a relatively new investor and today I’m going to tackle my first blog post.  What I’d like to write about is Self-Talk.  This topic applies to beginners, experts, and everyone in between.  If you’re not familiar with what Self-Talk is, it’s essentially what you say to yourself in your own head.

My business partner and I created our real estate business in June of 2012.  As with any business venture, the beginning is always the hardest and in many times, you’re your own worst enemy.  Whether you are new and just starting or are an experienced professional trying to take your business to the next level, what you say to yourself is crucial.  Fear and doubt are natural feelings and sometimes even have some validity.  What you do with that fear is what determines how successful you become.

It’s easy to allow yourself to be gripped with fear and have all these questions running around in your head, “Will this work?  Can I actually make this happen?  What if this? What if that?  This is tough and it would be easier to crawl back to my comfort zone…”.  These thoughts are destructive and should be pushed out completely.  Your subconscious is more powerful than you give it credit.  Whatever your subconscious says, your actions will inadvertently be a product of that.  What’s your subconscious saying to you?  Is it positive or is it negative?  One needs to laugh in the face of fear!  Replace things in your mind like “I’ll give it a try” or “We’ll see how it goes” with much more positive and constructive statements like “I WILL do this”, “This WILL work”, “I’m smart enough, I’m good enough, and gosh darn it, people like me!” (a Stewart Smalley line from the SNL skit, if the reference is lost on you, well, I thought it was funny!)

The bottom line is folks, believe in yourself and fill your minds with positive lines of thought.  Your actions will inevitably materialize those thoughts.  Educate, plan, execute, and enjoy your umbrella drink with your toes in the sand!  No matter what your goal is, get out there and do it!

Cheers!
