Should I attend the City of Milwaukee Landlord Training Program?

I am thinking of going to landlord school, a free class form the City of Milwaukee…

but I'm scared.

I am not sure if I can be a good landlord.  I am not sure if I will be a successful real estate investor.  I am not sure if I should invest in my local area or through a property manager elsewhere.

It's just a one day of time spent.  Why am I waffling over it?

I am nervous of failing, nervous of being bad with paperwork, nervous about buying wrong and getting stuck in a bad situation.

  1. I remember purchasing a property my first property and my landlord experiences. I wish I would have taken the time to take some form of landlord course/class. I strongly suggest that you go and do it...Good luck!

  2. Thank you Kyle.  I feel that right now, the thing I need most is confidence.  I'm unsure that I would be a good landlord, and undecided whether I can take it on myself or if I would prefer management.  Hopefully this class will help me get a better picture of the responsibilities and challenges.  Thanks for sharing your experience!  :)

  3. Hey Karen, I encourage you to attend the class and not be nervous. The class is good and will offer landlording from the city's perspective. The class talks alot about keeping the property safe and looking for signs of criminal activity which are both really good topics.

I took the class in February and was really glad that I went. And of course, in the end, you will get a nice looking certificate :)
