Hammond Knitters Needed to Help Soldiers

Hammond knitters are needed to help soldiers in a unique and fun way.  The Tealou & Josephine shop has created a group of knitters to knit helmet liners.  These helmet liners are shipped off to soldiers serving our country overseas.  The idea came about when a customer came into the Hammond shop to order a special type of yarn for helmet liners she was knitting for a soldier she knew serving abroad.  The owner of Tealou & Josephine, Gretchen Chauvin, thought this was such a great idea that she presented it to her knitting group.  The knitting group meets every Saturday from 1-2pm at the little shop located at 119 East Thomas Street in downtown Hammond to create the head warmers "in the round".  Anyone can participate.  As long as you can knit 1, pearl 2, you are in!  If you can't make it for the 1-2 pm session, you are more than welcome to stop by the shop at any time, pick up a free pattern, complete it at your own pace from home and drop it off at the store when you are finished.  The yarn must be 100% washable wool, nonflammable, warm when wet and in one of the approved olive, black or gray colors.  Ms. Chauvin says that the patterns are very simple and is currently looking for patterns for hats and cowls to knit in addition to the helmet liners.  If you are interested in participating in the "knit in" or want more information about this fantastic project, please contact Tealou & Josphine via email at [email protected] or simply drop by the shop.  Put your knitting skills to work to support our troops.  Hammond knitters are needed to help soldiers.  Won't you be one?  Thanks, Tealou & Josephine for showing us how Hammond helps others.
