My Patriarchal Joint Venture Partner

After being quoted $14,000 for some foundation repair on my flip property (full disclosure, this was later modified to a slightly less mind-blowing $8,000) my Patriarchal Joint Venture Partner or PJV (aka Dad) and I decided to perform the repairs ourselves. If it was just me alone doing this flip, a DIY project of this magnitude would not be an option but seeing as PJV has been a contractor and built several complete homes from the foundation up, I felt pretty comfortable last weekend when we rented a mini excavator and started digging. We're not done yet but here are some photos of the work in progress:

Having a PJV is phenomenal, I'd highly recommend using one if you have access. I used to think partnering with Dad is a lot like cheating, like I'm not really earning my way, but then I read Brandon Turner's excellent post about cheating and how everyone has their 'Unfair Advantage' in life. Now I think: it IS cheating, it IS an unfair advantage...so why not capitalize?!! Instead of 'Dad', I'll refer to him as my Patriarchal JV, and if PJV is willing to be a partner it doesn't make me any less of a person to accept that partnership and all the assistance and support it brings. In fact, wouldn't it be plain dumb to turn it down? Especially considering he's saved us no less than $5,000 this weekend alone.

Anyhow, our foundation repair should be all done this weekend. I'll try posting again soon to share the results.
