Realtors who can also work as skilled PMs

Since the housing market bust, it’s not uncommon to find that some real estate agents have started moonlighting as full-time property managers. It makes sense – since the business of home sales has been unpredictable for the past few years, and managing rental properties has proven to be a steadier stream of income for an industry struggling to find buyers.

In many ways the jobs requirements are similar. Just like property managers, realtors have to be detail orientated, keep amazing records, maintain a flexible schedule, and possess the utmost communication skills.

Realtors, like PM’s, also have to be spot-on with maintaining accurate bookkeeping. If you end up looking to employ a realtor as your full-time property manager, make sure they come with solid references. You want someone who has experience managing other properties, and who has contacts in all areas of servicing. Also, be sure they have a flexible schedule and can be called upon even on nights and weekends if there is a problem with your rental. You are not just trusting them to collect your rent money each month, but also with the responsibility of finding qualified tenants who will not destroy your investment or your reputation as a landlord.
