5 Ways to Winterize Your Glenbrooke Townhome
5 Ways to Winterize Your Glenbrooke Townhome
After last year’s polar vortex, which had nearly half of the US plunged into a record deep freeze, more and more homeowners are preparing their homes for the winter now.

One of the major benefits of living in is not having to worry about the roof, siding, landscaping and snow removal since your HOA takes care of that. However, there are still things you can do to make your home safe, comfortable and cozy while saving money on your utilities. Here are some suggestions on how you can prepare your home for the winter:
1. Make sure your HVAC is properly tuned up to ensure you’ll have adequate heat for the winter. Keep your heating to a minimum 65 degrees to help prevent frozen and bursting pipes. Also have your fireplace and chimney inspected and cleaned.
2. Set your ceiling fan to spin in the clockwise direction. This will force the cold air up while pushing the warm air to the outer edges of your rooms and eventually down along the walls to the floor.
3. Add area rugs to help retain heat in a room. They warm a room by acting as insulation between the floor and your feet. Just imagine how cozy it will be to slide out of your warm, snug bed and NOT step on the cold, hard floor.
4. Place thick, heavy curtains by the windows to prevent heat from escaping. Thermal curtains are also very popular since they insulate against the cold around your windows. However, remember to let in as much natural sunlight and heat during the day.
5. Clear your deck, patio or balcony of items or furniture that can be swept away by strong winds. Flying items are dangerous and can cause damage to your unit or even your building. To prevent strong winds from toppling your plants, put them together in larger heavier pots and place them in the corner and out of the wind.
It is always important to prepare your home before winter strikes. If you have insurance for your , familiarize yourself with the contract so you are clear on what you are covered for.
