The ASC Properties Creation Story

The company's history is short, less than two years since its formation, but the back story is a bit longer.

Created in March of 2013, the stated mission of ASC Properties is to provide housing for individuals and families who are willing and able to live in and contribute to the Eastside of San Antonio, and to work with community members, investors, and others who share that vision.

The core of that mission is even more focused, around my old neighborhood on the Eastside, that sprang up as a residential development in the mid 1950s. While it is at best a second tier neighborhood, it is still one that has many families that were around when I was growing up.

Years ago during a visit, I saw several vacant houses in the neighborhood and thought "Somebody should do something to keep these houses from being vacant." Then I thought, "why can't that be me?" Even though I lived 2,000 miles away, I figured out a way to make it happen with a single house, and that gave me the courage to do it on a bigger scale.

This was in 2003, a decade before I created the company, and just a few months after my first deal. But I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. To understand how the second deal led to my company, I have to talk about the first deal, but that is a story for the next article.
