When Is A "Long" Answer Really A Short Answer?

I sat next to Nathan Long, CEO of Quest IRA, Inc as he talked about using your 401k to earn greater than market returns.

The Question: I currently have an active 401k. Can I move some of that money to a Self Directed IRA to invest it myself?

The Answer: If you’re still employed by that company, then no. Those funds are tied up. Typically the two ways to free up those funds are to leave your job or you could die. We recommend the first over the second choice. ;-) But if you left your job, then congratulations! You can transfer those funds to a SD IRA and invest them however YOU like, not how someone else decides for you.

Do you know someone who is still working although they’re around retirement age? Why are they working? Because the return that they’re making from their “safe” investments is less than they need to retire. The choice most people make in that situation is to continue to work. Is that person you? Would it be a life-changing event for you if you could put your nest egg in a position to earn 10% rather than 1%? And how about if that position were secured by physical real estate?

We all probably know someone who is still working although they’re around retirement age. Why are they working? When you work with a Mortgage Note investor who specializes in non-performing notes, you’re investing in assets that can be purchased as low as 50 cents on the dollar and can provide above average growth in your retirement portfolio and you still keep all the tax benefits of an IRA.
