4 Tips before You Move to Your New Home

4 Tips before You Move to Your New  Home

Shortly after purchasing a  home for sale, you may feel too overwhelmed with the moving process. Aside from ensuring a smooth move, there are several other things that you need to take care of as you are getting settled into your new property. Make sure to do these four things right away.

1. Change the locks

Change the locks or have them rekeyed before you move any piece of furniture into your new home for sale. Doing so does not necessarily mean that you do not trust the sellers. This is an important step to ensure the safety and security of your family. You do not know who else might have keys to your home so it is better to have the locks changed once you arrive.

2. Set-up a security system

You may want to consider setting up a security system in your new house if it is not yet equipped with one. Living in a new home and a new environment will become easier if you know you are protected. For your peace of mind, do this step before you move in.

3. Give your new home a deep clean

Take advantage of your still-empty home by giving it a deep clean. Many people can attest that there are some things best done without furniture, people, and other obstacles around. Since you have unhindered access to everything, now is the easiest time to clean the floors, baseboards, and windows. Wipe down all the counter tops, shelves, and drawers. Clean out the oven, refrigerator, and freezer. You may hire a cleaning service to help you get it all done.

4. Find the circuit breaker

Finding the circuit breaker should be the first and foremost thing that you should attend to especially if you have no idea where your junction box is. You do not want to be lost in the dark hunting for the circuit breaker while you are already setting up your stuff in your new home. Get familiar with it. If it is not yet marked, ask any family member to stand in different parts of the house while you flip different switches. Make a note of which ones handle different rooms in your real estate. While you are there, you should also look for the water shut-off.

Moving into a new place can be both exciting and strange. These tips will help you make your new place feel like home.
