Polyester home theater acoustical panels

We buy home theaters, expensive audio equipments, etc. for a great experience. But after installing them, we experience something totally opposite. We keep wondering what went wrong since they sounded great in the showrooms. A home theater is a small room when compared to halls & auditoriums, which influences the behavior of sound. The type of loudspeakers generally used in home theaters are of low directionality i.e. the bass and mid-range energy released by them disperses in all directions which reflects off of hard/smooth architectural surfaces like wall, hardwood floors, windows, etc. present in the room. The reflected waves reach the audience after the direct wave which results in echo, disturbing the natural clarity.

We can stop this unwanted phenomenon by a simple technique which is nothing but installing sound absorbing panels. These panels are called Acoustic panels. Placing of these requires proper knowledge about sound & its behavior. The positioning of speakers should be considered while placing acoustic panels. A work without proper knowledge can result in unwanted & disturbing result. Even though sound absorbing panels sounds well they can’t be used in auditoriums because during live music sessions they may absorb the sound resulting in poor quality. A lot of absorption in a room creates a “dead” environment in the room, so better off using panels more than requirement. This arranging of speakers & panels accordingly and pleasingly is called home theater acoustics.

The reason why the product was great in the showroom because of the application of acoustics. So for a proper home theater experience we should go for an Acoustic treatment.

There are two types of panels, Absorber and Diffusor. The Absorber panels absorb the sound waves, therefore stopping them from reflecting off the hard surfaces of the room. Diffusor panels helps in keeping the room sounding “alive” by scattering the sound waves.

Polyester Acoustical Panels are easily available in the market in various shapes, colors and sizes. One can pick up according to their requirement, style and room dimensions. They not only act as Acoustical Panels but also change the look of the room by serving as decorative pieces. These are made from polyester which is recyclable and of low maintenance.

Now, let’s see the Factors that influence home theater acoustics.

  • Materials used in wall construction: The materials used for construction & thickness of walls also matter.
