When You Hit The Wall...

Normal 1503346083 Red Brick Wall

Real Estate Investors are entrepreneurs. You see the promise, where others see pain. You have a vision of how to turn around a property and make it shine. You create value through improvements and speed of exchange.

Frankly, you rock!

But there is a sinister issue hidden with vision. You look far off to the horizon and see how something can become amazing.

However, between where you are now and where you want to go, there can be a lot of obstacles you overlook. Or perhaps you recognize them, but you minimize them so you don’t get overwhelmed by all the stuff that could go wrong.

That’s what most people do. They come up with all the reasons WHY NOT, instead of the BIG WHY.

And they stop before they ever get started.

You know the feeling, right?

You have done just that in some aspect of your life. I guarantee it.

That isn’t your current problem, though. You had the vision. You took the leap (having faith the net would appear). You went ALL IN.

Things were chugging along like a locomotive under full steam…

But then you hit THE WALL!

  • Maybe your GC botched the foundation.
  • Maybe the city is taking its sweet time on giving you your building permits because you want to do something a bit different than they are used to.
  • Maybe you opened up the walls and ceiling and found black mold growing on the backs of a million termites.

So what do you do when you hit the wall? Chances are, at some point in EVERY project, you will hit it at full speed.

The answer is the same as it was when you got started.

YOUR BIG WHY...

WHY do you do what you do?

“Make a boat load of money,” you say.

That’s fine, but you need to dig deeper. Keep asking that maddeningly simple question.

WHY do you want a lot of money?

“So I can have a big house out in the country.”

WHY the big house? WHY the country?

“So my wife can get healthy and my kids can go to great schools.”

NOW WE ARE GETTING SOMEWHERE.

That’s what you need to keep top of mind. That’s what will get you over the wall, or through the wall, or around the wall.

You’ll get creative, because you are being OF SERVICE.

You are doing what you are doing because you want to create value for yourself AND OTHERS.

So, keep asking yourself WHY? and don’t let yourself off the hook when you give your first answers.

Five WHYS in, you’ll get to the heart of the matter. You’ll get vulnerable. And that, paradoxically, will give you power.
