Obama says: The Afro-American groups having Failed during the Foreclosure Crisis

Rumblings can be heard within the Afro-American community. They feel Obama has failed them during the time of this foreclosure crisis. They had turned out in record numbers to place on the President’s seat the first Black leader.

But today they feel that their specific economic and social needs have remained neglected and that they have suffered disproportionately more than the Whites during this recession.

The Afro-Americans are deeply divided as to whether Obama should deal with a specific Black Agenda. The civil rightists want to operate backstage giving support to the President while others are openly voicing their concerns in public.

A symposium was held recently at Chicago State University. Tavis Smiley the radio and television celebrity sponsored the programme. He has been criticizing the policies of Obama and attempting to focus on the neglected issues. The event will be broadcast live and is expected to draw a sizeable number of 7,000 to 10,000 participants and viewers.

The Afro-Asians have so far given the President high ratings although it fell from the high of 96% last August to 89% recently. But an increasing number of Blacks have been expressing their worries that Obama has sidelined them. They are publicly airing their discontent in talk shows and the radio.

Questions have arisen as to whether Obama should be held responsible for the horrendous unemployment numbers, of residential houses and the educational differences between the Blacks and the Whites. These issues have created problems among the Black leaders who are hesitating to throw the gauntlet at a President who have their respect and admiration. But by not doing so they are setting a dangerous example in handling future occupiers of the presidential seat.

Smiley said, “How are we going to do this dance with black leaders and the president when everybody is walking on eggshells because they are scared to hurt the president’s feelings? Great presidents are not born, they have to be made. They have to be pushed.”

Obama has repeatedly been saying that each step made to better the economy is targeted to help all the citizens. He had said, “If the economy is strong, that will lift all boats.” While speaking to American Urban Radio Networks, (group of radio stations owned by the Blacks) Obama had stated that he “can’t pass laws that say I’m just helping black folks. I’m the President of the United States.”
