Post #1 - Let the Learning Begin

Investors,

It's only been 2 weeks since finding Bigger Pockets and I'm seriously addicted.  I know lots of people post about how they are excited to start but a lot of those people don't post again...ever.  I've spent the last 3 days telling everyone I know (family, in-laws, old bosses, complete strangers) that I'm interested in real estate.  I'm trying to force myself to stick with this hobby right now so that I'm not just a one-post flicker on here.  I want to (like many people) replace my active income with passive income and the first step I'm taking is to spread the word so I'd be ashamed not to keep pursuing and hustling for deals.  The second step is to read.  Read, read, read.  Until now, I've been a pretty big reader but mostly of fiction, thrillers, etc.  I'm pulling a Brandon Turner for the next 3 months and raiding every real estate section of every library in the county.  I've got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell...and more books.  Additionally, I've been listening to 2-3 BP podcasts per day.  I'm not trying to boast on here, I'm building more of a forced hustle plan.  The more I lay out my pursuits on this post, the more apt I am to continue charging with rhinoceros spirit (read Rhinoceros Success by Scott Alexander).

I know I'm coming off very newbie-ish, but I'm okay with that.  I hope to look back on this post in about 5 years and roll my eyes thinking, "What a dork.  You don't even know what you're in for."  That will be fine with me because:  1) I'll have this record to look back on in case I've lost inspiration, 2) I'll know that I have grown and learned a lot because I've admitted right now that I am starting from zero (zero knowledge, zero money, zero connections) and, finally, 3) I'll still be logging into Bigger Pockets and this seems to be the hub of REI information, mentorship, networking, and community.  I'm getting so energized just thinking of my future self and all he will know.

But for me (for now) it's back to the books.  Thanks for stopping in and leave some good book recommendations while you're here.

Trent
