The “Phil” is Phenomenal in April…

 The “Phil” is phenomenal in April.  That is the only way to describe what is happening at the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts this month.  Starting today April 1, the Center will be presenting the musical In the Heights.  It won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations for 2008.  The play is set in Manhattan’s Washington Heights and is billed as a musical about the importance of home, family and finding where you belong and will run through Saturday, April 3. Two nights later Neil Berg will once again bring Tinseltown to Naples with his 100 Years of Hollywood.  Favorite songs from classic films and movie musicals such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Wizard of Oz, Titanic, Casablanca, Goldfinger, New York, NewYork, Dreamgirls and Moulin Rouge will be performed by some of Broadway’s finest singers.  On Saturday, April 10, the drama FDR : A Play by Dore Schary will be presented.  Ed Asner, recipient of seven Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, and member of the TV Academy Hall of Fame will star in this solo performance.  Based on Dore Schary’s Broadway hit Sunrise at Campobello, this powerful play follows the esteemed president as he reflects on his years in office, from inauguration to the events and decisions of World War II.The next night music takes center stage with the incomparable Roberta Flack.  This singer/songwriter is responsible for such hits as The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Killing Me Softly With His Song, Where Is the Love, and Feel Like Makin’ Love.  With a mixture of soul, jazz, pop and gospel, she possesses a style uniquely her own.Unique is also the best word to describe the Pilobolus Dance Theatre which performs on Monday, April 12.  This globally acclaimed concert dance company is renowned the world over as a pioneering American cultural institution and for their innovation, imagination and athleticism.  Tributes to Cole Porter, Scott Joplin and Richard Rodgers will only ...http://chrisanddick.wordpress.com
