Why Real Estate?

After reading the ever so popular “Rich Dad, Poor Dad,” I decided to make a significant change in my life. At the time that change wasn’t geared towards Real Estate investing but something I believe everyone truly wishes to achieve in life. That certain wish that I assume everyone wants to achieve is “Financial Freedom” and I can’t believe it took me 27 years to figure it out it was possible. This is my first of many blogs on BP that I hope to be inspiring for many others out there but also to keep my focus on my path of getting out of the “Rat Race.”

Deciding that reaching the goal of becoming financially free is possible is the easiest step. The part that discourages everyone is the work that has to be done to get there. I started out studying stocks, quickly realized that everything about it is manipulated. I have the extensive background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), so I started a GIS Consulting company with a friend. Decided that my heart wasn’t completely in the industry enough for me to spend long days and nights on a company that I couldn’t 100% relate to. I decided to take a step back and focus on what interested me. One day, I attended a Real Estate Conference by the FortuneBuilders. I instantly grasped the idea and my mind started to spin. In fact, I the first day of the conference I was already trying to sign up. The only problem is that I didn’t have 50k sitting around. From there I just decided to go to local meetups and REIA’s (Real Estate Investment Associations) to gather more knowledge. From there I decided it was still a good idea to invest in Real Estate but I was going to have to start from scratch and not with all brilliant information that FortuneBuilders “handed” you. I have a feeling this route is going to work out either way.

I have not yet done anything “written in stone” in Real Estate but have been actively looking for my first deal. I plan to complete my Real Estate Agent class and become an agent in the State of Maryland. Main reason for becoming an agent is so that I can act immediately on properties and put in my own offers. My focus so far has been finding my first “fix and flip” and the BRRRR (Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance, Repeat) strategy. My end goal is to have a sufficient amount of passive income to retire by the age 32 (27 now) and do the things I want to do.

Top Reasons I’m investing in Real Estate

Take care of my mother when she cannot work any longer

Look forward to sharing stories (good and bad) and giving the community updates on any information I find very important and where I am at on reaching my goals.
