“Embracing the Suck”
Embracing the suck is a coined phrase from Chase Thompson, another seasoned note investor residing the Texas. Scott Carson and him talk about sucking when first starting out with videos and raising money for notes. In this article I’m going to share whey Embracing the suck is critical to your business.
One of the best ways to get out there in the industry, especially in non performing note investing, is to make videos of deal reviews on video and posting to YouTube and other distributions online. It can be very scary to go in front of a camera having little to no experience and talking in front of possibly thousands of views about your given subject.
When I first started on video, we actually used a room in a newly remodeled hospital here in town because it had a nice background. Between getting caught for being too loud or staying in the waiting room for too long, videos were being made regardless. You should have seen these videos! At the time, it was about a diet plan for losing weight, or ways to get a flatter stomach. I laugh each time I see these because we’ve come a long ways since then.
In the beginning, I encourage you to write down what you will say first, even write an article about your subject, with that you will ingrain into your subconscious, and talking about it should be way easier than impromptu making a video without pre thought.
One of my tricks is to think that an audience is already in front of me and the camera is off to the side. This strategy helps me think that I’m talking to a group rather than an inanimate object in front of me. You will discover your own tricks and use them to the fullest extent.
Over time, making more and more videos, you will become more comfortable in front of the camera, and your videos will look more credible. You just have to make a consistent habit of making the videos each week. You can call for an accountability partner to keep you active as well.
I hope this helps for making videos!
