I lived in Haiti for nearly 12 years as founder/director of Child Hope International where we operated a boys home, girls home, feeding program, medical clinic, school and vocational training program/micro business incubator. I returned to the states in 2015 to focus on family and continue real estate investing. I am married, have 7 kids and 4 grandchildren. When I returned to the states I realized how difficult it was to get started at a later age. After a number of attempts to generate income, I found out that real estate investing was, by far, the best option for me -- especially at my age. I started a website, blog, newsletter and podcast called the Old Dawg's REI Network to provide education and information for people in the 50 plus age range (and anyone else who is interested) who wants to learn about real estate investing. Our needs and situations are different than younger people who can develop their real estate business based on longer-term strategies. Experience: I have rental properties in Memphis, Atlanta and Indianapolis. I started with SFRs and duplexes but now am focused primarily on apartments. Real Estate Goals: I started investing in 2014. My goal is to double the number of units/doors I have each year until I reach 1,000 units/doors at the end of six years (2020). Interested in becoming financially independent in my retirement years so I can continue my work in Haiti at Child Hope International, where, besides operating an orphanage, we are establishing micro-loans and business incubators for young entrepreneurs in Haiti. Currently Seeking: Currently seeking to connect with others (50 plusers) who are interested in learning about real estate investing, especially multifamily. Also looking for investors interested in partnering with me on apartments with 100 plus units in Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Florida and Indianapolis.
