The hardest question to answer is always about yourself. So here I am about to try and tell you about myself, why I am getting into REI and my REI goals. I move from Canada in 2001 to the Northern Virginia area of the US. After many years and looking at friends who were in RE, I took my RE Agent exam in 2013 and went to work for one of the mainline RE companies, over the next 9 months. During this time, my mentor being a member of the Million Dollar club, said to start doing open houses. I spent most of my time and effort in promoting other people’s open houses; I was asked to host most weekends. During this time, my mentor provided little support (partly my fault as I did not know what I needed to ask, to get some guidance). After 9 months, another opportunity can along to travel the US and Canada working at different airports performing photometric inspections of airfield lighting. I took this other opportunity and let my RE license expire. Fast forward to today, and I am getting back into RE but on the investing side. I am close to retirement from the Fire Department and looking at what the next move might be. So, with the daughter in Southwest Virginia, we (my bride of 30+ years) are looking at this region to invest in and move to. My investment goals are to acquire land with marketable timber, to assist in providing an retirement income, that we can continually harvest. Or make some improvement to sell to developers or people looking for acreages to build on. Being new to REI, I am in the process of growing my network and learning more about REI.
