Hello all! I'm César (he/him) and I'm in the process of acquiring my first real estate investment property in Puerto Rico. I am here per the recommendation of a friend as I consider incurring into real estate investment. So, I have some work to do to learn the jargon and find the right places to ask questions to help me navigate the processes, pros and cons and hopefully help qualm my "noob" nerves as I consider how to better proceed. The property that would be my start in real estate investment is 1.21 acres in Isabela, PR that include a main single family home that has been split and one half is been rented and an add on smaller "house" that has also been rented for some time. Though the property is not beach front is a fairly short drive from some of the best beaches in the north west of the island. This is a family property and where I grew up and thus seems like an opportunity I should not let pass by since I would be buying the property for 3/4 of the assessed property value. I am currently planning to borrow from a HELOC on my Virginia town-home but would certainly appreciate thoughts on this approach and or other recommendations. So I will be looking to find the right forums to learn more about real estate investment in general, look into investor options and/or ways I could access capital to invest. And above all, would really appreciate feedback from those of you with more experience on how to best develop this property into a hopefully good investment in years to come and maybe look into the next one once I get my "feet wet"!
