I have spent years educating myself on real estate and have spent longer wondering just how to make the leap from menial jobs and a meek future to prosperity and having something of which I could be proud. But I don't act like I know what I'm doing, because I don't. And frankly, I'll always espouse that mentality; it will drive me to keep learning. While I am still a beginner in every regard, I don't let that get in the way. Accepting that you don't know something isn't a sign of defeat, but rather an opportunity to grow. There are so many opportunities out there, you just have to have the desire, the courage, the passion to find them. I can't recall when or why I felt compelled to investigate the world of real estate investing. What I can tell you is that once I decided to see what all the hype was, I was hooked. I like systems. I like processes. I like money. Real estate offered all of those, and the concepts, unlike those in stoichiometry, were obscenely easy to grasp. At the beginning I wasn't interested in learning how to find investors. I didn't know the business. After all, a) who would invest in someone who didn't have a grasp on what they were doing? And b), I wouldn't feel right in asking someone for money if I didn't feel confident that I could return it. I am still getting my footing, grasping the ins and the outs, and learning how contractors can be as unpredictable as zoo monkeys that smile at you one minute, throw crap at you the next. I am eager to expand my portfolio and am glad/relieved to have a good friend, Mike, who will be accompanying me on this journey. My first property (a triplex) would not have been possible without him and his wife. (In fact, his wife is the one who found the triplex while we were in the midst of inspecting a duplex. I have posted a blog or a post or whatever it's called about that investment. I accidentally posted it three times because it said one section was too long, so I deleted a line, it repeated the message, I deleted another line, then ... success! Now three identical blog posts are up. If anyone can tell me how to delete those extra ones, I'm all ears.)
