Frank Houpt

Hi, my name is Frank Houpt. I am 24 years old and have absolutely no experience in real estate. I live and work on a cattle ranch outside of Carbondale, Colorado. My interest in real estate was first sparked a couple of years ago from a radio ad for a Rich Dad workshop. The idea that I could invest some of my savings into property and make a little extra money each month seemed like a no-brainer. I attended the three day event and was extremely excited to get started. I spent as much time as I could on the internet searching for anything real estate. The problem was I really had no plan, no idea what, exactly, I should be researching, and, subconsciously, not enough drive or commitment to figure those things out. As you can imagine, life got busy and real estate was put on the back burner. A few months ago my fiancé discovered the magical world of podcasts, and became obsessed. Clearly, I had no choice but to give her some grief for this. But, a few weeks later, on a trip to Denver (about a three hour drive for us), she turned on a show, despite my resistance. It's easy to say we do not share the same taste in talk shows, but she showed me the podcast app. and explained how easy, and free, it was to download whatever content you wanted, from sports to business to self-improvement, they have it all. Needless to say, I was pretty intrigued, but as the stubborn, resistant, simpleton that I was, all I had was a flip phone and a $30.00 Mp3 player, so it wasn't as easy as press and play. Long story short, my interest in podcasts was short-lived. A couple weeks ago, she surprised me with an iPod touch, for my birthday. After getting it setup, I spent the rest of the night searching for, and downloading podcast after podcast, mostly self-improvement and business based shows. Now I'm obsessed. I listen to them every chance I get, and not to sound like I'm playing favorites or anything, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Bigger Pockets podcast. My interest in real estate investing has lingered as a small ember in the back of my mind since the Rich Dad seminar, but this podcast served as gasoline! I am back to spending late nights, early mornings and any other free time I find focusing on how to make this work. I feel so fortunate to have found Bigger Pockets and am excited about becoming a member of this community.
