tl;dr: I live in the beautiful city of San Francisco and invest in the fantastic Columbus, OH market. I got started on my REI journey in 2016 when I bought a duplex in San Francisco. It was a house-hack, but I hadn't heard the phrase at that time, I just thought it would be a good idea to own a house and defray the mortgage with rental income. That piqued my interest in full-fledged real estate investing. Fast forward a couple of years, I decided to invest out of state. At the end of 2018 I made a goal of "50 in 5" -- buy 50 units in 5 years. My 2019 sub-goals were to: free up capital, research markets, pick a market to invest in, and buy 2 buildings -- DONE My 2020 sub-goals were to: buy 10 more units, undertake a full rehab -- DONE In 2021, I want to do some flips to create more capital (exact metrics tbd).
