I am in the Coast Guard and got stationed in Tampa, FL in July 2019. Knowing I'd rather pay my own mortgage instead of someone else's, I decided to buy a house. I closed on my first house at the end of October 2019 and had intentions to pay the morgage myself. Then a good friend of mine told me about House Hacking and introduced me to Bigger Pockets. While skeptical at first, I was hooked after listening to my first podcast. Since then I have read mutliple books on real estate investing and listened to countless podcasts. I have also began House Hacking one of my spare rooms through Airbnb and plan to Airbnb the other spare next month. My short-term goal is to buy another property before I transfer the summer of 2022. My long-term goal is to buy 1-2 properties each time I transfer so I can retire from the Coast Guard with a decent rental property portfolio.
