Hey all, I'm a photojournalist by day, REI researcher by night, just trying to find that first deal. I'm just getting started with my real estate venture, currently lining up funds to get this thing off the ground. If people only knew the full details of what a TV Photojournalist really does day to day, nobody would even think twice about hiring me. My life thrives off of stress! Think about it, when I come into work in the morning sometimes it takes hours to lock down a story. We then have to go to the location(s) and shoot that story, gathering all the video I think we will need to put it together. Then the reporter writes the story and I usually end up with a script about 4pm. That's when the real magic begins. I have less than a hour to edit this video together in a compelling way that makes sense to the audience, and is creative enough to catch the attention of the viewer, and then once I'm done, if we aren't already on location for our live shot, we have to drive to the scene where we will go live, set up, do checks with the station to make sure we have a strong signal, do mic checks, and then usually live at 5pm. If that's not good time management and stressful all at the same time, I don't know what is. I also have developed very good people skills and know how to read a situation. It's a very tough job to walk up to a mother who just lost her child and try to get her to go on camera and tell her story to thousands of people. Not my favorite part of the job, but it's in the job description. It's a very tough but very rewarding job.
