I still consider myself a real estate investor newbie and excited to learn more. In regards to my professional background, I have been a critical care Registered Nurse for several years. I work full-time in the medical device industry. My husband and I also own a screen printing & embroidery business (The Press in Pomona, CA) where we specialize in manufacturing graduation stoles/sashes and sell online to graduates throughout the country. As for my background in real estate investing it's been rather minimal. When I was a broke nursing student, I read this book called Deals on Wheels by Lonnie Scruggs (flipping mobile homes). Desperate as a young mom and college student, I was trying to think outside of the box on how I can earn some extra cash. My first ever investment (inspired by Deals on Wheels) was the purchase of a repo mobile home in a nice area I purchased with minimum down for $17K. I made no major improvements to the mobile home besides a deep cleaning (I did myself) and a fresh coat of paint inside. I was able to flip it for $37K! I used that profit to purchase my very first home not too long after I graduated from Nursing school. I wished I continued my personal development into real estate investing at an earlier age, but my desire was to focus on my nursing career. Now, I want to focus on helping my husband build our business and to expand into more real estate cash-flowing assets. We currently own 3 SFR rentals in Southern California. Our highest cash flowing rental is a 5 bedroom home which we rent by the room. Our second SFR is rented to a family and the third SFR is owned in partnership with a friend and is rented to college students. We're looking next to consider multi-unit properties, mid-term rentals (we actually love renting to college students due to our connections with the local colleges we already do business with), and possibly some short-term rentals.
