Financial Advisor
Hello! I'm one of those rare unicorns in the financial advisory sphere that encourages my clients to invest in small multi-family real estate while avoiding high fee investment products. When you invest in a global portfolio of low fee index funds coupled with small multi-family rentals, you are able to reduce your risk while generating the potential for higher returns. This is due to the low correlation between directly held real estate and stocks. The key is to buy right and manage right. Plus, you cannot beat the tax benefits of real estate. No other asset class alows you to write off your income against the phantom expense of depreciation. My story began in 1998 when I set a goal to acquire ten duplexes in ten years as a side hustle. After hitting the goal early, I decided real estate was fun and set a goal to 10x my real estate portfolio. It has been an amazing journey. I specialized in creative finance, driving for dollars, and finding diamonds in the rough. My best deals never hit the market. My philosophy is to buy, rehab, rent, refinance, and repeat until rich. The "Brrrr" strategy with an extra "r." I'm not a flipper and believe real wealth is built by investing and maintaining nice properties to attract nice tenants. Frankly, if you take care of your tenants, they take care of you. In 2014, I was interviewed for the Bigger Pockets Podcast Show 86. In 2015 I was featured in Forbes by Elaine Pofeldt. She profiles solo entrepreneurs who have hit the one million in revenue mark. Here's the title of the article: "This Entrepreneur Built A Million-Dollar Business On Small Investments In Local Real Estate." In 2018, I was profiled in the top-selling book “The-Million-Dollar One-Person Business.” Published by Random House, It profiles solo-entrepreneurs who have broken through the million-dollar revenue barrier. Since the Bigger Pockets Podcast, I’ve also been interviewed on other Podcasts. From “The Best Real Estate Investment Advice Ever,” to Rod Kleif’s “Lifetime Cash Flow” Podcast. I enjoy hanging with my two amazing daughters, rock climbing, skateboarding on my Big Kahuna longboard, and paddleboarding on Lake Superior. I live in a small college town rated "Best town in America" by Outside magazine in 2014.
