I am Physical Therapist and have been interested in real estate investing for a while now. I got into this since I have noticed that a majority of the elderly patients I've worked with in the past 23 years who were doing exceedingly well with their finances have one thing in common: real estate investments. It seemed to me that they did really well in their professions, saved a lot of money, and started buying up properties. However, as much as I immediately wanted to be like them, it was very hard for me to come up with the kind of capital they have. Early in our marriage, my wife and I made a commitment to live on one income, so she could stay home & homeschool our kids. I made a good living, lived comfortably but simply, but not enough to pay a second mortgage. My wife and I had to wait a bit until our kids got older. More than this, we were like most people; my wife and I did not want to be landlords. However, in March 2016, I got really tired of hearing news on the radio about the presidential campaigns, so I switched to audiobooks. With audiobooks as a conduit, my real estate adventure began. I encountered two books from Brandon Turner & I learned about house hacking. The rest is history. So this year, my wife and I decided to sell our house to buy a 5 bedroom, 3 bath home. It already has 2 kitchens because it has a mother-in-law apartment adjacently connected to the house. We are closing on that property in June 30 and will be living in the smaller unit. We plan to do Airbnb/VRBO/National Corporate Housing on the main house which is 3 bed, 2 bath. Technically, we are turning the house into a duplex, but it will not have separate electric and water meters for now. I decided to become a BP Pro Member even though I am such a newbie because I believe that everyone in our team should get paid. BiggerPockets is a big part of my team now. I probably spent more time with Josh Dorkin and Brandon Turner than any of my friends (my wife complains too) since January 2017 listening to BP podcasts (I plan to listen to everyone of them). Hopefully, we will be successful with our new venture and continue to purchase/rehabilitate/rent homes that will be a value to our community.
