Started with a buddy to rehab and flip a house way back in 2003; it turned into a miserable failure. Paid too much, didn't know anything, and ended up destroying the house and the city tore it down. I'm still paying on it... Three years ago, my wife and I started again. as of May 2016 we own 5 homes that rent for an average of $725 per month and a duplex that should fetch $1k each side. The goal is to get to at least 12-15 and then upgrade homes to more expensive/higher equity properties. Not sure if we will get to the owning level like the "big fish" do. I'll retire from my day job when we can live on the cash flow, and we'll sell one every so often when we need a boost. A fantasy goal is to use the monthly cash flow to live on a cruise ship for a year or two before hacking a nice tropical spot in an exotic location, and start up again!
