My husband had already dabbled in real estate investing on a small scale when I met him back in 2015. He purchased a duplex about 2 years before we met, living in one half and renting out the other (#househack). In 2017 he purchased a second duplex and renovated it. With 3 rental units under his belt, and me having watched from the sidelines, we decided to try a new tactic, and go in on this venture together! We decided we wanted to build ground-up, rather than focusing on fix-and-flips. My husband got a General Contractor's license and I got my Real Estate license. Within just a few years of hard work, we completed and sold 8 houses, made $2M in revenue, and our company made the Inc. 5000 Regional's list as the 2nd fastest growing company in Louisiana. We used our profits to travel for 6 months and build our own dream home!
