Lisa Casey

My name is Lisa Casey. I am originally from the Pittsburgh area, grew up in Aliquippa Pa. I got a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1980 from University of Pgh, so I am dating myself. I worked as an Engineer for over 20 years, Kodak (Rochester NY), GE Waynesboro Va, Sony (Terre Haute IN), Ford (Detroit, Mi), and Ford (Louisville Ky) where I have lived now for 20 years. I am married also to an Engineer, who just recently retired. We had one son, who unfortunately passed at 19... tragically and unexpected Dec 2011. We will never be the same. I love old houses and currently live in Old Louisville. When I decided to stop working to spend more time with our son, we bought a little country house on 18 acres about 20 minutes from downtown Louisville, adjacent to Jefferson Memorial Forest. We fixed it up and used it as a get a way on weekends. We have rented it out over on and off over the years. We later purchased a condo at the Thierman, which is a historic craftsman building built in 1912 and on the National Register of Historic Places. We totally renovated it and received a Historic Tax Credit of 10K. I am Vice President of the condo association there and we have made so many improvements on the building. (The Association is currently involved in litigation with another condo owner and that has been a nightmare for the community.) We are the first Condo Association to apply for the Historic Preservation credit http://heritage.ky.gov/incentives/kytaxcred/ which resulted in a 35K rebate to the Association. I am mentioning this credit because I would highly recommend applying for the credit if you are renovating a historic home. I have refinished, and renovated many old homes, and antique furniture and do not buy any thing new. I have only bought real estate that I fell in love with, not really as an investor. So I am an accidental landlord and have a problem because I am emotionally attached to the 3 places I own and now rent. I came to this forum because I started having issue with one tenant.
