I started in real estate in the late 90s with my own start-up: A Property Management firm & Sales Brokerage here in Charlotte, NC. Experience: I was a RE Broker in NC SC and had a Property Mgmt company here for many years. My very successful business model was to help individual investors (beginner and experienced) from all over the USA and Internationally buy great properties in the Charlotte area. Then my firm leased up and managed the property. All a wonderful experience and learning daily, until I discovered an embezzling employee. Yep. It sure happened. I filed police charges and called the real est commission and was so devastated... I shut the entire company down overnight and sold my company to two other big PM firms in town. I joined REMAX as a 'Top50 in NC' Broker and worked till 2010 when the market just crashed. I was tired! Time to take a break and rethink life goals. But I kept my investment properties (all SFH) that have performed EXTREMELY well and changed my life. So just in 2017...I found BiggerPockets and felt so at home helping / coaching new investors and trying to give TIPS on getting started and surviving emotionally and financially as a new long-term landlord/owner. It is so worth the effort to LEARN and implement all you can about real estate in an affordable appreciating market like Charlotte! Over the years, this is truly a life-changing endeavor for you and your family. AUGUST 2019 UPDATE. In late 2018, I've sold all of my properties to speed up my first and only divorce - now it's done , final : ) The property sales are providing funds for my daughter's college education (Freshman Aug 2018) and allowing early retirement for me.I am now beginning to rebuild a small portfolio--I can still spot a 'deal' a mile away ( A "deal" is an appreciating positive cash-flowing property located in a strong rental area.) This time I anticipate JV (Joint Ventures) bringing in different partners on each strategic purchase here in ever-growing Charlotte and having lots of fun teaching other investors to be successful. I am also helping a few international investors with the EB5 program and helping them assimilate into American culture- living here as future green card holders and citizens.
