Hello Bigger Pockets! I am a what I would describe as a second generation, real estate investor by default, family responsibility, and entrepreneur DNA passed down from my parents', small ole' school, do it yourself-er, first generation, immigrant view of life... who did their best to fulfill the American Dream. During childhood I always felt like I wanted to "rescue" my dad from the clutches of his 3 three-flats. They helped pay many bills, our college tuitions, and added to his retirement pension later in life. However I always felt sad that they (maintenance, tenants, and the "if you want it done right you have to do it yourself") were draining his energy and life. Yet he didn't seem to be able to live without his 3- 3 flats. I use the word "rescue" because I always saw the potential for him to take the next steps to larger multi-units at greater profits and all the ways he could go from Mom&Pop to full -fledge commercial multi-unit investors. In hindsight, it may have been fear of the unknown, fear of success, or minimalization of all that they achieved or for whatever the reason they would not allow me to pursue real estate investing on a larger scale. I did all the "right things" as far as they were concerned- obtaining multiple academic degrees and holding various rather successful and enjoyable careers. However I have always had the dream to fulfill my childhood real estate visions for myself and for my family. Dad, Mom, and one of three siblings are all resting in peace. I have a family of my own. I would like to take the value of two of the three flat investments they entrusted to as catalysts to build on what they left as their only form of inheritance. I would like to feel the joy and fulfillment of being able to leave the results of my real estate dreams to our children.
