Marcel Rutz

Marcel Rutz is a multifamily real estate investor whose real estate journey began in 2010 when he started investing in residential properties in Europe, primarily in Switzerland (Basel) and the Alsace region of France. After building experience in European real estate, Marcel entered the U.S. market, initially investing in single-family homes in Houston, Memphis. From there, he expanded into duplexes, triplexes, and multifamily properties in working-class neighborhoods before shifting his focus toward larger multifamily investments and syndications. Over the years, Marcel has participated as a Co-Limited Partner in numerous multifamily investments and portfolios across Texas and other U.S. markets, representing thousands of apartment units. His experience includes both successful investments and challenging projects, giving him a practical understanding of underwriting, deal structure, capital calls, asset performance, and the realities of passive multifamily investing. A major milestone in Marcel’s journey was his relationship with Craig Haskell, founder of the Value Hound Academy and Haskell Value Group. Craig became Marcel’s mentor and had a significant influence on his approach to value-based multifamily investing. In 2025, Marcel acquired the Value Hound Academy with the goal of preserving Craig’s investment philosophy and carrying his legacy forward while bringing the Academy into its next chapter. Following an extensive redevelopment, Marcel relaunched the Value Hound Academy in the summer of 2026, combining Craig’s proven Value Hound principles with Marcel’s own hands-on experience as an investor. Today, Marcel continues to invest in U.S. multifamily real estate while building the next generation of the Value Hound Academy and helping investors better understand multifamily investing, evaluate opportunities, and make disciplined, value-driven investment decisions.
