I'm a Program Officer for the Dept. of the Army and am eager to start investing in real estate. I'm always looking for challenging things to learn and to share what I know with others. After all, we are all in this together! Experience: I have zero REI experience, however I have many years of program management, process development, and problem solving/strategy development experience if I can be of assistance to anyone else. I've owned (personal residence) a few SFH's of which one was a complete "fixer-upper" that we ended up doing quite well on. In the past couple months I was introduced to "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and the BiggerPockets website and they have completely changed my outlook on investing. Currently in the research, educate, and build network stage. Still unsure of the type of rentals but will be in the planning/strategizing phase soon. Real Estate Goals: Ultimately not to be tied to my "9-5 job" out of necessity. This will provide flexibility in all areas of life and the ability to help others in need. I also want to teach this type of investing to my kids as we go along. Still in development as education increases: By End of Year 1: Two rental properties that are cash flowing. By End of Year 3: Five to seven properties cash flowing. By End of Year 5: Fifteen properties cash flowing using diversified property types and out of market procurements. Currently Seeking: Knowledge in every area that influences or is influenced by real estate. I've been reading Brandon Turner's books, scouring forum threads, blog posts, and the BP podcast for information to develop a strategy and target a specific rental market that can be successful in my area. I don't have REI experience, but have many years of program management, process development, and problem solving in general if I can be of assistance to anyone else. ...more to come.
